Toys: getting ready for the passport.
What to have ready before issuing passports for toys, from the same records as the rest of this site. Print it or save it as a PDF. It is a starting point, not legal advice.
Does it need a passport, and from when?
Yes, required from 1 August 2030
For every toy placed on the EU market.

Who is responsible
The duty sits with whoever places the product on the EU market, usually the manufacturer. Where a passport is required, it has to exist before the product is sold, and stay available for years afterwards.
What the passport carries
This is the passport as the software builds it for toys. It describes what is modelled, not what the law requires: the act for this product group sets that.
Parts not shown to the public: Substances of very high concern.
On the product
A data carrier, such as a QR code, that links to the passport. The act for the product group says which carrier to use and where it goes.
Questions to settle inside your company
- Where does this product data live today?Spreadsheets, a product or ERP system, or supplier documents. The node imports CSV and Excel files, including exports from an ERP.
- Which of your web domains will carry your company's identity?Anyone who checks a passport checks its signature against an identity published on your own web domain.
- Who in your company may sign passports? The signing key is generated and held on your own infrastructure, so someone has to be responsible for it.
- Who will run the node, and where? It runs on your own infrastructure, or on a cloud you control.
- Who will ask to read the parts that are not public?Repairers, recyclers and authorities read those parts, each on a credential.
- Who keeps the passports available after the product is sold?A passport has to stay available for years after the product is sold.
